Film review: Empire Of The Sun
This is based on J.G. Ballard's autobiographical novel
this is about a young spoiled British schoolboy who is obsessed with planes and also lives in shanghai international settlement with his wealthy family during World War 2.
In the invasion Jamie gets separated from his family
He goes home and waits at his home after he is lost he meets person from the American stewardship called Basie. He and Basie find their way into a processing center then into a concentration camp. As Jamie is in this concentration camp the understands humility and turns from a spoiled brat in to a helpful boy who is trust worthy and also does erons around the concentration camp.
In the concentration camp Basie set up a small group inside the camp as he tries to find information about where the war is at. Later, when the Chinese attack Jamie encounters planes and almost dies trying to. After they attack they are let free and everyone is allowed to go but some people die. After a person die Jamie sees a bright light a thinks it’s the soul but finds out it is actually an atomic bomb which ended the warm between Japanese and Chinese. After a while Jamie is put at a place similar to a child rescue center. He finds his parents by does not recognize them at all. This film the shows the effect of war on young people and the world around them.
This film captures and puts you through the struggles he goes through suffering and pain he does and also what war can do to young people.
What I liked about the movie is the drama and how one little thing turns into a big problem.
What I didn’t like is the how the story ends to rapidly.
I rated Empire Of The Sun 3 out of 5 stars.
